UK Man Sues Apple After Wife Discovers "Deleted" Messages with Sex Workers
The man is now suing Apple for 5 million pounds
A man is taking legal action against Apple after his wife discovered messages he had sent to sex workers on their family iMac. He believed these messages had been permanently deleted from his iPhone, but they remained due to the devices being synced with the same Apple ID. The discovery led to his wife filing for divorce.
The individual, who prefers to stay unnamed, used iMessage for communication with sex workers and thought he had erased the messages from his iPhone. Nonetheless, the synchronization feature of the Apple devices made them available on the iMac.
He alleges that Apple failed to clearly communicate that deleting messages from one device does not erase them from all connected devices. "One would assume that a deleted message is indeed deleted," he stated to the media.
The discovery of the messages by his wife resulted in a divorce that cost him over 5 million pounds. He described the divorce as extremely painful and believes that a more thoughtful discussion could have prevented the marriage's end if the messages had not been uncovered in such a harsh manner.
He is now suing Apple for 5 million pounds and aims to expand his lawsuit into a class-action for others who may have experienced similar issues.
He argues that Apple's unclear instructions on message deletion contributed to his predicament. He suggests that a notification such as 'These messages are deleted on this device' or 'These messages are deleted on this device only' would have provided a clearer understanding.
